Weed Near Saddledome: Pre-Game & Concert Buyer's Guide

Visiting Calgary for a Flames game or concert? Find the closest BudMart, learn what's legal at the Saddledome and Scotia Place, plus hotel delivery info.

# Weed Near Saddledome: Pre-Game & Concert Buyer's Guide

You're in Calgary for a Flames game, a touring concert at the Saddledome, or an upcoming Scotia Place show. Maybe you flew in from Toronto, Seattle, London, or further. Event nights at Stampede Park pull crowds from every corner of the map: international music tours rolling through Western Canada, NHL clubs in town to play the Flames, Stampede-week headliners, and the steady stream of family shows that fill the calendar. If you're trying to figure out where the closest legal cannabis store is, what hours it keeps, and what the rules actually are, this guide is for you.

BudMart is the cannabis brand visitors choose in Calgary — 9 stores across the city, built for locals and the millions of people who pass through every year. Toonie Delivery ($1.99). We're Calgary's go-to cannabis brand for event-night visitors.

Closest BudMart stores to the venues

Stampede Park sits at the south edge of downtown Calgary, bordered by the Beltline to the north, Victoria Park to the west, and the Elbow River to the east. Both the Scotiabank Saddledome (current home of the Flames) and the new Scotia Place arena (under construction immediately north of the Saddledome) sit inside this same event district. One set of nearby neighbourhoods serves both venues.

Beltline / 17th Ave area (walking distance to Saddledome)

The Beltline runs north of Stampede Park across Macleod Trail, roughly from 9th Avenue down to 17th Avenue SW. Our Beltline-area locations are the most foot-traffic-friendly for anyone walking from a Stampede Park LRT stop or a downtown hotel. Use the BudMart store locator to confirm the exact address and hours — operating hours can change, so tap the locator rather than trust a screenshot.

Inglewood / East Village (LRT to Victoria Park-Stampede)

If you're east of downtown — Inglewood, East Village, or riverside hotels along Memorial Drive — the Red Line C-Train drops you at Victoria Park–Stampede station, a short walk from both arenas. Several BudMart locations are an easy hop from the C-Train or a brief rideshare, and they tend to be quieter on game nights than the Beltline stores.

Driving in from the airport or Banff — westbound vs southbound

Flying in to YYC? Deerfoot Trail southbound brings you in from the airport in roughly 25 minutes outside rush hour. Coming from Banff or Canmore? You'll hit Calgary on Highway 1 eastbound, then drop south on Crowchild or Deerfoot. Either approach passes BudMart locations on the way in. The store locator sorts by distance from any address — plug in your hotel and we'll show you the closest store.

When to stop in before puck-drop or doors

Store hours and the 30-minute rule (arrive early; ID required, 18+)

Alberta's legal cannabis age is 18 — lower than every other Canadian province (most are 19+), and a surprise to visitors from the U.S. (where it's 21 in most legal states) and from the UK and Australia (where adult-use cannabis isn't legal at all). You will be ID-checked at the door of every BudMart store. Acceptable ID includes a passport, a Canadian or U.S. driver's licence, a provincial photo ID card, or a Nexus card. International driving permits alone aren't sufficient — bring your passport.

A practical tip: budget at least 30 minutes for your store visit. That covers the ID check, talking to a budtender, the transaction, and walking back. On Flames nights and big concert nights, our Beltline-area stores see a rush in the two hours before puck-drop or doors, so the earlier in the afternoon you can swing by, the easier the trip.

Weeknight Flames vs. weekend concerts — traffic windows

Weeknight Flames games typically start at 7 PM, with Stampede Park traffic building from 5:30 onward and Macleod Trail and 4th Street SW slowing after 6. Weekend concerts vary: a Saturday show with 8 PM doors sees venue traffic from 6 PM, and rideshare surge pricing along with it. If you can do your cannabis stop in the afternoon — between checking in and dinner — you'll skip the worst of it.

What's allowed at the Saddledome and Scotia Place

No cannabis on premises — possession can mean ejection

Both the Scotiabank Saddledome and the incoming Scotia Place arena prohibit cannabis on the premises. Venue security screens bags at the gates, and possession can result in ejection without refund. This applies to flower, pre-rolls, edibles, vapes, and concentrates. Leave it at your hotel.

No public consumption in Calgary (city bylaw)

The City of Calgary's Cannabis Consumption Bylaw (12M2018) prohibits cannabis consumption in all public places within city limits. That includes sidewalks, parks, plazas, parking lots, transit stops, and the LRT. There is no equivalent of a "smoking area" outside the arena where cannabis is permitted. The bylaw is enforced; fines apply.

Where it IS legal: private residence, licensed hotel rooms that permit it

Cannabis consumption is legal inside a private residence. For visitors, that means your hotel room — but only if the hotel permits it. Most Calgary hotels are non-smoking and many extend that policy to cannabis (including vaping); some designate cannabis-friendly rooms, others prohibit it outright with cleaning fees for violations. Always check with the front desk before you assume.

Toonie Delivery ($1.99) to your downtown or Beltline hotel

If you'd rather skip the trip to a store entirely, BudMart offers Toonie Delivery ($1.99) across most of Calgary, including the downtown, Beltline, Victoria Park, East Village, and Inglewood hotel zones near Stampede Park.

How BudMart delivery works (order window, ID at door, 18+)

Place an order through our website, choose your delivery window, and a BudMart driver will bring it to your hotel. You'll need to meet the driver in person — they cannot leave product at the front desk, with a concierge, or in a hotel room. Government-issued photo ID is required at the door, and the recipient must be 18 or older. Note the same-day cutoff on the order page; orders placed too close to closing get pushed to the next day.

Hotels in the Beltline, downtown, and near Stampede Park

Most major hotel zones near the venues are inside our delivery area: the Beltline (south of downtown), the core downtown towers, the East Village along the river, and the cluster of properties immediately north and east of Stampede Park. If you're not sure whether your hotel address is covered, the website will tell you at checkout.

What international visitors should know about timing

Edibles onset windows — informational only

The most common mistake international visitors make is assuming edibles work on the same timeline as inhaled formats. They do not. Health Canada's guidance is that edibles can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect, and effects can last significantly longer than inhaled cannabis — sometimes up to 12 hours. This is informational, not a recommendation around event timing.

Inhaled formats vs ingestion

Health Canada distinguishes between inhaled cannabis (flower, pre-rolls, vapes) and ingested cannabis (edibles, beverages, capsules). Inhaled effects come on within minutes and typically last 2 to 4 hours; ingested effects come on much more slowly and last much longer. Health Canada is explicit that you should never drive after consuming cannabis, and that impairment can persist for hours after the subjective effect has faded.

Responsible visitor checklist

  • Don't drive. Cannabis-impaired driving carries the same criminal penalties as alcohol-impaired driving in Canada. Rideshare, transit, or stay put.
  • Don't bring it to the venue. Saddledome, Scotia Place, and every other ticketed venue in Calgary prohibits cannabis on premises.
  • Don't fly out with edibles, vapes, or concentrates. For domestic Canadian flights, Transport Canada permits only sealed dried flower and pre-rolls in personal carry-on quantities. For international flights leaving Canada — including to the U.S., U.K., or Australia — cannabis in any form is illegal to take with you, full stop. U.S. Customs and Border Protection treats it as a federal offence regardless of state legality at your destination.
  • Don't consume in public. Calgary's bylaw covers sidewalks, parks, plazas, transit stops, and parking lots.
  • Health Canada and AGLC resources. For official Canadian guidance, see Health Canada's cannabis information pages. For Alberta-specific retail and licensing information, see the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) site.

Event-night FAQ

Q: Can I bring cannabis into the Saddledome? No. The Scotiabank Saddledome prohibits cannabis on the premises in any form. Bags are screened at entry, and possession can lead to ejection.

Q: Can I bring it into the new Scotia Place arena? No. Scotia Place will follow the same no-cannabis-on-premises policy as the Saddledome.

Q: I'm visiting from London — what ID works? Bring your passport. UK driving licences are not accepted on their own for cannabis purchase or venue entry in Alberta. A passport is the safest universal ID for international visitors.

Q: Are stores open after a 10 PM concert ends? It depends on the location — each store sets its own hours within the legal window. Check the BudMart locator before the show. If you want product for after, consider ordering delivery to your hotel earlier in the day.

Q: Can I take it back to my hotel between Stampede shows? Yes, if your hotel permits cannabis on the property. Most do not allow smoking or vaping in rooms. Check with the front desk before you assume.

Q: I'm 18 — can I actually buy in Alberta? Yes. Alberta's legal age is 18. You will be ID-checked, so bring government-issued photo ID.

Q: Can I consume on the LRT or at the Victoria Park–Stampede station? No. The LRT, all transit stops, and all public sidewalks are covered by Calgary's no-public-consumption bylaw.

Q: I'm flying back to the U.S. tomorrow. Can I bring some home? No. Taking cannabis across the U.S. border is a federal offence under U.S. law, regardless of the legal status of cannabis in your home state. Don't risk it.

Q: Can I order delivery to a hotel I haven't checked into yet? You'll need to be on-site to receive the delivery and present ID. Schedule the order for a time after you've checked in.

Q: Is there parking near BudMart stores in the Beltline? Most Beltline locations have nearby street parking or small lots. On event nights, parking gets scarce — consider transit or rideshare.

Q: Are pre-rolls allowed in carry-on for my flight home to Toronto? Within Canada, Transport Canada permits sealed dried flower and pre-rolls in personal-quantity carry-on. Edibles, vapes, and concentrates are not permitted on domestic flights.
